Simulation and Design in Aerospace Industries

The aim is the optimization of four flap positions for a commercial aircraft wing. one of the key requirements for commercial aircraft ist high lift and low noise at landing, i. e. to reduce the flap noise at landing. The key objective is the optimization of four flap positions of a commercial aircraft wing.
For the aerospace industry BRIDGE will provide extensions for existing commercial-off-the-shelf software packages to allow the definition and execution of analysis programs (like aero-elasticity, acoustic simulation) through Grid enabled analysis services. A total of five GRID Services will be developed and set-up during the course of the project. Each service will be located and computed on different sites, three of the services being located in the EU, while two services are deployed in China.

Grid-enabled implementation of workflows for optimization

The objective is the implementation of a distributed optimization workflow for multidisciplinary wing design for aerodynamic and noise performance using simulation modules from EADS and AVIC II along with surrogate modelling methods from FhG-SCAI and workflow definition and execution module from LMS.

Services deployed within BRIDE
Acoustic Simulation Service by EADS and Aeroelastic Simulation Service by AVIC-II. Each service is executed on computing platforms operated by EADS and AVIC-II respectively.
Workflow Service and Design of Experiment Service by LMS. The Workflow Service allows for the encapsulation of the computational workflow and its execution in a distributed environment, the Design of Experiment Service provides the means for generating the multiple design alternatives in providing the Meta-Modelling Service with data.
Meta-Modelling Service by Fraunhofer SCAI provides a high fidelity condensed representation of the analysis model as defined by the workflow.
Optimization Service by AVIC II and Beihang University. The Optimization Service is operated on the Meta-Model modules provided by FhG-SCAI and executed at FhG-SCAI computer clusters.
