BRIDGE has developed an interoperation framework supporting interoperability between European and Chinese Grid middleware technologies. The framework has been developed in the context of three application demonstrators showcasing distributed inter-continental workflows in the pharmaceutical, aerospace and meteorology sectors. The requirements from the application sectors described a classic Grid computing need where computationally intensive applications needed to be executed using data and computational resources administered under different domains of control. These requirements included large scale data processing, data storage and data transfer considering the security and management policies of hosting organisations.
